LW var. Texensis Double Headed – 7cm Pot Size – Lophophora Williamsii var texana
Lophophora Williamsii var texana is the one we tell beginners to buy first because it just refuses to die.
Most new growers kill their first peyote with rot or by underwatering.
This Texas variety solves both problems.
It’s the hardiest Lophophora Williamsii we’ve ever grown.
Why Lophophora Williamsii var texana Is The Hardiest Peyote We Grow
We’ve grown pretty much every Williamsii locality.
The texana (also sold as texensis) consistently outperforms the rest.
Here’s why we rate it as our favourite for new and experienced collectors:
- It survives neglect – we’ve left ours bone dry all winter and they come back fine in spring.
- It survives overwatering in growth – we actually tried to rot a healthy plant in summer and it just drank more and grew faster.
- It flowers more than any other – expect a new flower every couple of weeks through the growing season, not just once a year.
- It sets seed fast – seed pods often appear within two weeks of the flower drying.
- It pups early and often – most plants start producing pups at 3 to 4 years old, or once they reach 5-6cm in diameter.
Real talk: our oldest mother plant was sown 15th June 2008.
Just shy of five years old it was already over 10cm wide with a large pup on the side.
That’s the kind of vigorous growth we see from this locality.
What You’re Getting
This listing is for a double-headed Lophophora Williamsii var texana in a 7cm pot.
You are not getting a tiny seedling.
You are getting an established, well-rooted Texas peyote with two active heads already forming a clump.
Perfect if you want the look of a multi-headed plant without waiting four years.
Each plant is grown hard in our own mineral mix, so it’s already toughened up to UK conditions.
Our No-Nonsense Care Guide For Texana
- Give it as much direct sun as possible.
- Water only when the soil is completely dry in spring and summer and keep it totally dry through winter.
- Plant it in a very gritty, free-draining mineral mix.
- Keep it warm while growing and cool and dry in winter to encourage flowering.
FAQs
Is Lophophora Williamsii var texana the same as texensis?
Yes, it’s the exact same plant.
How big will my double head be?
These are established plants in 7cm pots with two clear heads, ready to grow on, not fresh seedlings.
Is this variety good for a beginner?
Yes, this is the variety we recommend first because it tolerates mistakes better than any other peyote cactus.
How often does it actually flower?
In good light and heat, a mature plant will push a new flower every two to three weeks during the summer.
Will it produce more pups?
Yes, texana is a prolific pupper and will continue to form a cluster over time.
Why do collectors want the Texas form?
It’s historically the form found in North America, known for its resilience, fast growth, and reliable flowering and seed production.
If you want a peyote that grows instead of just sitting there, this is the one to start with.
We have a very limited number of these double-headed Lophophora Williamsii var texana available right now.
